You've Made Your Bed, Now Lay In It ! 2003 Embroidery on Linens Triptich 16 " x 16 " each The first image is an open face peanut butter, honey and banana sandwich. In the second image, the sandwich is closed, and the third, it is smashed. Peanut butter and banana sandwiches are, of course, associated with Elvis Pressley and while I was aware of that association, Elvis was not part of my immediate thoughts when conceiving this piece. Peanut butter, honey and banana sandwiches have been a steady part of my diet since childhood and I associate the sandwich with the children's song, Five Bears in the Bed: Five bears in the bed and the little one said, "I'm crowded, roll over." So they all rolled over, and one fell out. Invariably, when eating a peanut butter and banana sandwich, the first bit results in one or two slices of banana falling out. There is something fascinating and maybe a little symbolic about the shape of a slice of bread; it is a combination of a keyhole and a heart. Also, there is the idea of cut verses uncut bananas and whatever Freudian thoughts one may have with that. This piece was shown at the MOMO Gallery in Kansas City, 2004; The Stick to Your Guns Exhibition, 2004 and purchased by a private collector in 2004, who generously loaned it for an exhibition at Virginia Western Community College in 2005.
